First of all, a huge thank you to everyone for continuing to support us with your donations during this challenging pandemic time. Your support combined with the additional grants that we successfully applied for have made an enormous difference, enabling us to continue to provide a full service to you without the need to furlough any staff; this is a vey significant achievement which few charities have been able to match!
As we move to the next stage of the pandemic, there is still much uncertainty about how long restrictions will last and what impact this will have on us at the Fragile X Society. With this in mind (and to coincide with Fragile X Awareness Day), I would like to make a big ask! Could those of you that would normally have supported us through fundraising events and activities, please consider donating to us on a monthly basis (through the link below) or increasing your existing monthly donations? It will come as no surprise to you that we have lost considerable income that we would have gained through your fundraising efforts, during this pandemic. You haven't been able to meet, to run, to swim, to dance, to sing and to take part in fundraising activities due to the Covid restrictions. It's that simple. So if you can commit an additional amount to the Society on a monthly basis, that would be fabulous!
Well...I thought, 'Pete, you ask for more support without doing something yourself!' So I am delighted to announce that I have signed up to take part in a charity boxing match on 21 November 2020. I will literally be 'fighting for Fragile X'! This involves a gruelling regime of high intensity training 5 days a week, eating a healthy high-protein diet and giving up any alcohol whatsoever for the next ten weeks. I will be setting up as page for donations as soon as we get confirmation from Sport England that we can spar and that the venue will be considered Covid safe. It is hard to know what to do in the current environment, but I really want to do something positive on your behalf and I hope the Covid doesn't put a dampener on things!
I will keep you all updated on progress. Also, I very much look forward to the point when we will all have a chance to meet face to face!
